MANAGING THE MAJOR CASE INVESTIGATION: ADMINISTRATIVE CONSIDERATION INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS
December 9-10, 2010
A seminar to assist police supervisors assigned to major cases to develop a strategic plan for such cases and appropriate ways to deal with attendant challenges they present. During the program, topics to be considered include: (1) importance of control of the investigation pace and development; (2) processing the crime scene; (3) securing information through evidence found at the scene and through interview of witnesses and other subjects; (4) initial lead investigation; (5) seeking the assistance of surrounding law enforcement agencies; (6) use of supervisory checklists while performing supervisory duties; (7) ensuring investigators have sufficient evidence to detain a suspect; (8) keeping superiors informed of vital case details; (9) relationship with prosecutor in preparation of search warrants and other legal documents; (9) relating to the press and media representatives; (10) keeping the investigation focused; (11) announcing the "break in the case" and (12) controlling and protective case files and appropriate documents. Program will be conducted December 9-10, 2010 at the York County Fire Academy, 330 Emig Road in York, Pennsylvania. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each program day.
