MANAGING THE UNIFORMED PATROL UNIT
December 13-14, 2010
It has long been said that patrol is the "backbone" of a police department, and it is now recognized that more so than ever, this is actually true. However, in these times of reduced budgets, we are all being asked to do more with less. Thus, efficient and effective management of operations becomes even more important. This two-day seminar will provide new patrol managers with guidelines on how to effectively manage the operations of their unit as well as offer current up-dates for experienced patrol managers looking to fine tune their patrol management skills. Topics covered will include: (1) basics of structuring a law enforcement agency; (2) general patrol operations; (3) operations functions vs. staff functions; (4) patrol unit organization and management; (5) workload analysis; (6) span of management & delegation (authority/responsibility); (7) patrol goals and objectives; (8) patrol methodology; (9) staffing and deployment; (10) importance of directed patrol; and. (11) patrol function as related to traffic law enforcement. INSTRUCTOR: Captain Regis Bryant, Assistant Commander, Sixth District, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Program will be conducted December 13-14, 2010 at the Public Safety Education and Training Center, 6852 4th Street in Sykesville, Maryland. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

FEE: $295 per person.
