MANAGING THE UNIFORMED PATROL UNIT
September 27-28, 2011
It has long been said that patrol is the "backbone" of a police department, and it is now recognized that more so than ever, this is actually true. However, in these times of reduced budgets, we are all being asked to do more with less. Thus, efficient and effective management of operations becomes even more important. This two-day seminar will provide new patrol managers with guidelines on how to effectively manage the operations of their unit as well as offer current up-dates for experienced patrol managers looking to fine tune their patrol management skills. Topics covered will include: (1) basics of structuring a law enforcement agency; (2) general patrol operations; (3) operations functions vs. staff functions; (4) patrol unit organization and management; (5) workload analysis; (6) span of management & delegation (authority/responsibility); (7) patrol goals and objectives; (8) patrol methodology; (9) staffing and deployment; (10) importance of directed patrol; and. This program has been approved by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission for In-Service Hours for Police and Corrections Personnel for 13 in-service hours. The approval number is P13500.

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: Seminar will be conducted September 27-28, 2011 at the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Headquarters, 12751 Layhill Road in Silver Spring, Maryland.. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

FEE: $295 per person.
